Professional Practice Gap/Description of Education: “Back to the Basics” focuses on understanding and improving two antipsychotic-related quality measures: 2-10 for short-stay residents and 2-27 for long-stay residents in skilled nursing facilities. It explains how these measures are calculated using MDS assessments, highlighting exclusions based on specific diagnoses. The education also advocates for reducing antipsychotic use through gradual dose reduction, interdisciplinary collaboration, and fostering empathy, curiosity, and hopeful attitudes among staff.
Objectives:
• Understand the calculation and significance of Quality Measures 2-10 and 2-27 related to antipsychotic medication use in short-stay and long-stay residents, including numerator, denominator, and exclusion criteria.
• Identify strategies to reduce antipsychotic use through gradual dose reduction, interdisciplinary collaboration, and person-centered care approaches.
