Role Summary 

The Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) is a key leader responsible for overseeing the Nursing Care Department, guiding the Directors of Nursing, Social Work, Enrichment, RNAC/LPNAC, Quality Improvement, Wound Care, and Restorative Nursing. You will integrate organizational strategy into daily operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain operational excellence.

You will serve as a visible and approachable leader, inspiring your team, building relationships with residents and families, and ensuring exceptional standards of care.

Key Responsibilities 

Administrative Leadership 

  • Oversee daily operations of the Nursing Care Department and related ancillary services.
  • Ensure resident services meet or exceed professional standards through assessment, care planning, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with department managers to review service contracts, optimize staffing, and manage budgets effectively.
  • Conduct rounds on nursing neighborhoods to maintain accessibility, assess operations, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as an administrative liaison with residents and families, resolving concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate department managers to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee, guide performance improvement projects, and integrate resident/family input.
  • Represent the nursing facility during surveys and inspections, ensuring readiness and compliance.

Financial Management 

  • Oversee budget, monitor variances, and assess financial impact of operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and leadership team on fiscal planning, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure accurate reimbursement and compliance with Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.

Team & Culture Leadership 

  • Model Messiah Lifeways’ Core Values and Operating Standards in all interactions.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide feedback to direct reports and team members.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure team members are trained, compliant, and knowledgeable about long-term care regulations, HIPAA, and corporate compliance policies.

Committee Participation 

  • Serve on and facilitate committees, including Leadership Team, Safety, Ethics, QAPI, Residents’ Council, Nursing Staffing, Psychotropic, Falls/Wounds, Medical Director, Pharmacy, Therapy Services Collaboration, and Compliance Committee.

Required Skills & Abilities 

  • Demonstrated competence in management and leadership of healthcare teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of federal/state regulations, Medicare/Medicaid, and Department of Health survey/certification requirements.
  • Budget preparation and review experience.
  • Understanding of Residents’ Bill of Rights.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work culture.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop staff while building trust and engagement.

Education & Experience 

  • Current, in-good-standing Nursing Home Administrator license in Pennsylvania required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, nursing, or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an administrator in a long-term care setting preferred.

Physical & Mental Requirements 

  • Occasional pushing of wheelchairs (20–200 lbs).
  • Walking ~3 miles/day; climbing stairs multiple times daily.
  • Standing, bending, lifting/carrying supplies (1–40 lbs) as needed.
  • Constant visual and auditory awareness for resident safety.
  • Ability to handle stress, grief, trauma, and high-concentration decision-making situations.
  • Use of computer/telephone for 3–5 hours/day; frequent public interaction.
