IPS (Infection Prevention Specialist) Registered Nurse Manager

We’re currently seeking a dedicated IPS (Infection Prevention Specialist) RN Manager to assist the Director of Nursing at Luther Acres, a Luthercare community delivering skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services in Lititz, PA. This is an exempt-level position.

WHAT YOU DO:

As the IPS (Infection Prevention Specialist) RN Manager, you will partner with and support the Director of Nursing in leading a culture of continuous improvement through Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts.

You will perform a range of duties, including:

  • Act as primary contact and educator of staff in Infection Prevention practices and clinical development.
  • Infection Preventionist responsibilities such as: assessing, developing, implementing, monitoring and managing the Infection Prevention and Control Plan, with the assistance of Luthercare Administrative staff and software.
  • Maintain accurate reports of applicable infectious outbreaks and report to appropriate agencies/governing bodies. Maintain accurate record of resident immunizations (including but not limited to Flu, COVID, RSV) and administer vaccines as needed.
  • Coordinate vaccine clinics with Pharmacy.
  • Initiate Enhanced Barrier Precautions for residents when applicable.
  • Educate Nursing staff on nursing standards in conjunction with Director of Nursing and Luthercare standards to ensure that operations fall within guidelines set forth by federal/state regulatory bodies.
  • Provide weekly/periodic audits as assigned, including but not limited to environmental audits, staffing concern audits, etc.
  • Dedicate time to provide on-the-floor observation in the Healthcare Center while conducting as needed and routine rounds of the Healthcare Center to assess compliance with regulations. Troubleshoot areas of possible concern to avoid problematic issues. Is pro-active in dealing with identified problem areas.
  • Identify and communicate training needs with the Director of Nursing. Execute training after approval from Director of Nursing and leadership team.
  • Conduct interviews with direct care applicants as needed and recommend hiring decision with Human Resources.
  • Provide center orientation to all new employees. Coordinate and conduct in-service education for all applicable staff. Plan, develop and execute clinical competency evaluations for all nursing staff.
  • Represent the organization for educational purposes on various committees and groups and ensure proper communication and application of information as appropriate.
  • Complete monthly summary of in-service and training compliance and report results to the Director of Nursing.
  • Provide flexibility in own schedule to ensure the training and competency needs of the Healthcare Center are met in a timely fashion.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing to develop an action plan to correct non-compliance. In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, evaluate nursing staff performance and counsel/discipline employees when appropriate, while maintaining pertinent documentation.
  • Develop and recommend standards of care, promulgate changes and monitor compliance with rounds, periodic conferences with nursing staff, and report review.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process as assigned. Active and integral role of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement process/team Manages Clinical Programs as directed by the Director of Nursing and participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) as required. Complete regulatory compliance reports as required.
  • Track medication errors and apply the Medication Error Protocol by educating staff as appropriate. Alert the Director of Nursing when disciplinary action is called for under the Medication Error Protocol.
  • Serve as additional personnel who is able to interview and select applicants for nursing service positions.
  • Work as a member of a team to provide essential nursing services and nursing education.
  • Assumes on-call responsibility on a rotating schedule.

Luther Acres – located in the charming, historic town of Lititz – is a Continuing Care Retirement Community with a long history of providing excellent care and services. It is part of Luthercare, which is a not-for-profit, faith-based, and mission-driven organization. Luthercare provides a network of services through its full continuum of care with two communities in Lancaster County. Luther Acres is home to nearly 600 residents living across its independent living cottages and apartments, personal care apartments, and skilled nursing Healthcare Center.

EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and of resident care management.
  • Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with residents while fostering a warm, respectful, and therapeutic environment that promotes their well-being and dignity.
  • Ability to instruct staff, assign work, evaluate performance, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to lift and turn residents with a maximum of 50 lbs. effort and perform the functions required to push residents in wheelchairs.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Fit testing as needed per Luthercare’s Respiratory Program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Outlook and Teams, with the ability to efficiently navigate electronic health record systems and processes.
  • Two (2) years’ experience providing direct patient care to the geriatric population.
  • Two (2) years’ demonstrating knowledge of the principles/practices of organizing, directing and supervising nursing staff.

 

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to blood and bodily fluids is occasional.

 

PREFERRED JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES/EDUCATION:

  • One (1) year experience planning, preparing and conducting training programs.
  • Desire to teach other team members in new/different/creative and effective ways
