Primary Accountability:

  • Manage nursing services for efficient nursing coverage while providing high quality care and excellent customer service.
  • Develop, teach and monitor staff compliance with standards of care, promote quality improvement, monitor compliance through direct observation and auditing.
  • Write, revise and administer nursing policies/procedures to ensure that operations fall within guidelines set forth by federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in the development of the nursing care budget and identify cost controls to minimize waste.
  • Provide supervision to ensure adequate supplies with minimal waste, efficient use of manpower, high quality standards, and compliance standards are met.
  • Interview and select applicants for nursing service positions.
  • Monitor time and attendance daily, complete payroll reviews bi-weekly in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Direct the provision of orientation, in-service and professional/technical development programs for nursing personnel.  Participate in educational programs to learn and teach geriatric best practices and new rules and regulations.
  • Direct and collaborate with interdisciplinary team regarding the admissions/discharge process.
  • Research and investigate resident issues, concerns and problems.  Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to exceed the expectations of residents and their families.
  • Promote and encourage individualized resident care striving for the highest level of independence for each resident while maintaining safety and infection control measures, resident dignity, individuality, and confidentiality.
  • Lead others through actions consistent with and serve our culture
  • Makes independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Deals tactfully with employees, residents/patients, family members, visitors, government agencies and general public
  • Works systematically, shows initiative and follows through on goals without continuous supervision or guidance
  •  Promote United Zion to the community at large and perform public relations functions as part of the facility leadership team.
  • Participate in the overall strategic plan for United Zion, developing practices and implementing processes as directed by the leadership and board of directors.
  • Is in charge of the community in the absence of higher ranking management officials.
  • Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.
  • Schedules and performs resident rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care.
  • Charting and documentation of care and of medication and treatments.
  • Develops and implements the written staffing plan and nursing schedule that reflects the needs of the resident population.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable managed care, Medicare and other standards for long term care.
  • Promotes and protects resident rights
  • Maintains a line of communication with the resident's family; answers questions that the family poses regarding care and treatment, changes in condition or transfers to other rooms, nursing unit or community.
  • Reviews and makes corrections from monthly pharmacy and medical record consult reports.
  • Attends all required training, in-service, and staff meetings.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • RN Licensure in good standing with the state of Pennsylvania, BSN strongly preferred.
  • Current registration with the State Board of Nursing Examiners
  • At least three years of nursing experience as a nurse supervisor in long-term care, with proven leadership, team building and management skills; five plus years preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nursing services, therapy, rehabilitation, administration, supervision, resident care, State and Federal long-term care regulations, etc.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods involving in-service instruction.
  • Ability to apply good principles of personnel administration in the assignment, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
  • Knowledge of MDS and resident assessment/documentation related to the PPS process.
  • Keen assessment skills, ability to formulate and implement nursing care plans.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and guidelines that pertain to long term care
